AVUXI joins OSM UK

Blog, News

We are very happy to announce that we have officially joined the OpenStreetMap United Kingdom Community (generally known as “OSM UK”) as a corporate member!

OSM UK is a non-profit legal entity to undertake interests that benefit the OSM community passionate about OpenStreetMap. It represents mappers in the United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and Channel Islands, as well as the interests of the map itself. OSM UK is also a local chapter of the OpenStreetMap Foundation.

The OpenStreetMap Foundation is an international not-for-profit organization supporting, but not controlling, the OpenStreetMap Project. It is dedicated to encouraging the growth, development and distribution of free geospatial data and to providing geospatial data for anyone to use and share.

What is OpenStreetMap?

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an initiative to create and provide free geographic data, such as street maps, to anyone.

OSM is a collaborative project where individuals and organisations contribute to a free and editable map of the world. It is rich in local knowledge and includes an incredible level of detail that continues to grow every day. Although it is possible to use OpenStreetMap just as a map, it becomes really useful when treated as a database.

We are happy to support OSM UK and contribute to increase the quality and quantity of data in OpenStreetMap.
