AVUXI GeoPopularity Scores assign a category popularity score to any location of interest—such as a hotel, apartment or landmark.
The scores are broken down by the type of popularity. They include:
- Sightseeing: Landmarks and popular places to go and see or visit.
- Eating: Places to eat for different meals of the day.
- Nightlife: Fancy a drink? This category includes bars, pubs and clubs.
- Shopping: Various types of shopping.
Scores below 5.0 are not displayed.
Every category has 1 overall popularity score. That single score is calculated based on 3 different radial distances from the point of interest: 120m, 500m and 1500m (corresponding to walking times of roughly 2, 6, and 20 minutes).
The scores are also normalized for the city/ local area. A shopping area in the centre of a large city is very different from the shopping area of a small town.
The basis for the overall score depends on the radial distance scores, which are between 0 and 100.000.
Below is an example of popularity scores calculated for a hotel near the Sagrada Familia:
One can easily see that for short walks from the hotel, sightseeing appears to have a high score (24712), but for larger distances (1500m) the score is much lower (3082).
For other categories (dining, shopping and nightlife) there do not appear to be many areas of interest in the close and intermediate walkable area around the hotel, popular venues seem to be appearing only when the walking radius is extended to 1500m.

Now consider an example of AVUXI Scores for a hotel located in the centre of Barcelona:
In this example, the hotel’s immediate radius of 120m has a lower sightseeing score (4315) than the hotel near the Sagrada Familia (24712), but for all other categories at all radius sizes, the hotel in the centre of Barcelona appears to be much closer to many areas of interest.
While the Sagrada Familia is a must-see for most Barcelona visitors, booking a hotel based solely on its proximity to this well-known venue might not provide travellers with their desired Barcelona experience.
